Windows Phone OS free

Microsoft in an attempt to garner market share has offered Windows Phone OS free to Indian Players

The catch up game with iOS and Android has resulted in Windows Phone OS go free for now to indian mobile manufacturers. It is as such that desperate times call for desperate measures. Microsoft has waived of the licensing fees to two Indian manufacturers Lava and Karbonn. Last month it had announced that two Indian players Lava and karbonn will be producing Windows OS phones in the coming months. Both these companies are at present producing Android devices using Google's mobile OS which is free to use.

This comes after Microsofts repeated attempts in urging Indian phone makers to produce Windows based devices. The negotiations have materialised only after Microsoft removing the licensing fees. This move is unprecedented it had not given the OS free to Nokia, which had agreed to exclusively make Windows Phone in 2011. It reportedly charged Nokia between $20 to @30 for each Lumia device the finnish company sold. While Microsoft is likely to offer Windows phone OS to other manufacturers, including the global companies, under similar terms, the agreements with the two companies are specific to them.
